If you’re looking to settle down somewhere in Anytown, USA, then Lake Elsinore, tucked away in Riverside County, California, may very well be the place for you. Lake Elsinore provides its residents with a spaced-out, suburban feel, with plenty of room to stretch out and enjoy the balmy weather. Having officially been a city since 1888, it is located right up on the edge of its namesake body of water, Lake Elsinore, which is a 3,000-acre natural freshwater lake. From the turn of the 20th century, it has grown from a sleepy resort town to a population above 60,000, as of 2017.
Baseball fans love this city. Lake Elsinore is home to its own minor league baseball team, “
The Storm“, and they play in an amazing stadium. They have been playing ball in Elsinore since 1994 as an affiliate team of the Los Angeles Angels and are currently associated with the San Diego Padres. A whopping 181 players who have worn a Storm jersey have gone on to play in the Major Leagues. The team offers several programs oriented towards their younger fans, such as the Field of Dreams, which includes a meet-and-greet with players, and a pass to the stadium’s “Fun Zone.”
Another favorite event to attend amongst the locals is the Elsinore Grand Prix, an exciting dirt bike race that occurs annually, usually around November. The race was at its peak of popularity from the late 1960s through the beginning of the 1970s. Greats such as the legendary Steve McQueen have competed here. The race format is known as an “open” race, which means that anybody who wants to race, can. Most folks who participate don’t take the competition very seriously and consider it an excellent opportunity to have some fast-paced, adrenaline-filled fun.
Another big attraction for thrill-seekers and extreme sports enthusiasts are the local skateparks. The city has two, McVicker Canyon Park, which was the first of its kind to be built and owned by the city. Serenity Park was to follow in June of 2015. To create Serenity Park, the city contracted Spohn Ranch Skateparks to handle the design and building of the state-of-art park on 8,500 square feet of land. This very impressive local shred spot includes ramps, quarter-pipes, and even a peanut-shaped bowl.
